In Current Use, we are in the final stages of wrapping up our review and approvals for the 2013 tax year.   Please remember if there are homestead changes, you will need to update your current use data and send it back to us at the Tax Department.

We are hoping to finish up our review of 2013 enrollments by November 15th, 2013.  I expect that we will have a handful of outstanding parcels, but considering that there are over 17,000 parcel in the program, I am very impressed with how well we all worked together to get things wrapped up this year!

If you attended the VALA annual meeting, I mentioned the upcoming issuance of a new Current Use Application form.  I had initially hoped that we would distribute copies directly to the listers’ offices.   Due to efficiencies, we are now combining our mailing with the new PTTR booklets being mailed to the town clerks.  These should arrive on the town clerks’ desks around November 18th, so keep your eyes open.   If you need additional copies of the forms, please call the Department of Taxes’ forms ordering line at  (802) 828-5860 x15.  The public can also request paper copies of the form through this phone number; however, they may find it quicker and easier to use the fillable pdf form on the Department of Taxes website.

In case you get questions, we will only need one original of the application.  The form is no longer be a carbonless form, so you can make copies in-house if need be. The form is now two pages long and therefore an additional $10 is required because of the increased recording fee ($50 total).  Also, the Notice of Change of Ownership form is retired since the transfer information is included on the application form.   If there are more than three owners, they will need to complete the additional owners form which will also be included in the mailing.

Once the new forms are out, please make sure you recycle ALL old versions of the application and Notice of Change of Ownership forms.  We will not be accepting the old forms after December 1, 2013.

Finally, I should let you know that we are making excellent progress on developing a web-based application system for Current Use.   Due to some contracting issues, we experienced a delay, but we have made significant strides to create a system that will serve the needs of everyone.  We will have more detailed information about this project over the next six months.

Again, thanks for all of your work and assistance over this last year!   If you have any questions, please call.
